In a word, CHEMURGY.

Chemurgy is plant-based industry. Chemurgy is plant-based building. Chemurgy is plant-based medicine. Chemurgy is plant-based fashion, nutrition, skin care, culinary arts, regenerative farming, and more. 

Chemurgy is the chemical and industrial use of organic raw plant materials. 

Chemurgy is a branch of applied chemistry that involves the industrial use of organic raw materials, especially agricultural products, and is considered biochemical. The term was coined in 1935 and was used until the early 1940s but is now more commonly known as biochemical engineering. 

The word "chemurgy" comes from the Greek words chêmi (chemistry) and ergon (work) and was intended to mean "chemistry at work". 

Chemurgy involves using raw plant material to produce medicine, plastics, paints, gasohol, and over 50,000 other products. For example, soybean oil can be used for paints and varnishes, and southern pine can be used for paper pulp. 

George Washington Carver saw chemurgy as a way to address human problems and believed that farm waste products could be used to make insulating boards, dyes, industrial alcohol, and more. 

Henry Ford also promoted chemurgy in the 1920s and 1930s.

YES, we believe that hemp has the most potential to help us reach our goals:  

Products made from hemp provide healthier living environments in addition to being biodegradable.  In other words, healthy homes!  Hemp insulation is fire- and mold-proof.  Hempcrete is carbon-neutral and eliminates construction waste.  Above ground level, Hemp products can last hundreds of years, but when buried in the ground, decompose in a matter of months into earth-friendly byproducts.  Hemp fabrics last forever.

Hemp is Chemurgy.

BUT Chemurgy is much more than hemp. 

Often referred to as the "father of chemurgy," George Washington Carver was an African American agricultural scientist and inventor.  Born into slavery in mid-19th century Missouri, Carver became a foremost American scientist. 

Carver saw the potential for agricultural products to replace petroleum-based materials in industry, which would reduce dependence on fossil fuels. 

Regenerative farming helps replace commercial fertilizers that harm the soil. Carver’s work in chemurgy helped promote sustainable agriculture and the use of renewable resources.  He believed that farmers could benefit from diversifying their crops and finding new uses for their products. 

Hempanista sees a world of new career opportunities in chemurgy.

Carver's legacy as a pioneer in this field continues to inspire researchers and innovators around the world.  Scientists and engineers are developing new products and processes that utilize renewable resources and reduce environmental impact.

With Hempanista's Pre-apprenticeship Program in chemurgy, the last truly shall be first.
